I've got a Samsung Galaxy S22 ultra phone which just did some system updates. After the last one or so my whole home screen layout was completely gone as far as no app icons and the settings I had for it. The widgets, my folders of apps and icons, and even all the web browser pages I added as shortcuts icons to my home screen.

If you long press an icon in the app drawer, you should get a mini-menu with the option to add to home screen, or you can long press, hold and drag it to the home screen. Also go to your phone settings/home screen and then turn on the slider for "add new apps to home screen".

I understand your concerns with wanting to change your home screen layout and I will be more than happy to help you. If you unlock your phone, touch and hold down any empty spot on your current home screen. At the top of your pages you will see a house icon, simply swipe to the page that you would like to be number 1 and tap on the house icon. After the new update on my tab s8 plus, when ever unlocking there seems to be lag when showing the home screen, it should be smooth everytime the device is unlocked. I hope, this is fixed in future updates. You can arrange them in folders on your apps page, or you can create folders on your home screen (s).
I do both. I sort the various apps into folders on my apps page because it makes them easier to locate. Then I add just a few folders on my home screens for the few apps I use the most. I don't need every app cluttering up my pages.
